Does your plumber have insurance?
Every plumber should be covered by insurance. You will need to ask about their Public Liability Insurance and Workers Compensation and look into their current status. Never, ever hire a plumber who isn’t currently covered by these insurance policies.

Look for a licensed plumber only.

Do not accept any quotes which do not have a complete address, license number and registration details on it. To secure yourself, you can verify or check the details of the registration number online at websites like the State Department of Labor and Industries. You can also contact the State Contractors Licensing Board by mobile phone and confirm the number for your security and safety.

Does the plumbing service respond quickly?
Ask the plumber that you have selected for at least three references from clients that are at least three years old. The main reason for getting refernces that are this old is to check and see if the plumber has been working in this area for a long time. Doing this will ensure that you are not hiring a fly by night operator who will cheat you. Furthermore, these three-year-old clients may have repeat leakages and problems and when you contact them you can inquire about how they dealt with these problems. After you have done this checking, check with the plumber in regard to his warranty and service periods. Ideally, along with the manufacturers warranty for the goods that he has used, the plumber should be able to set a tentative time period for his limited warranty for the work done. Do Not expect a full guarantee because that is not really possible for domestic kitchen appliances and products which can break down at any time but a restricted warranty is possible.

If you would like to compare more quotes, then you can simply search for local plumbers online to get free quotes online. But frankly, you should know how much the job is going to cost you. For example, a busted heater is going to be expensive; you already know that while a blown gasket is going to be mild to moderately expensive.
